Clannad Episode 11

It was nice to have Clannad make me laugh out loud again. I was somewhat scared Kotomi’s arc would bore me because her introduction last episode disappointed me far more then I could truly understand. Despite her cute charm and oddly moe persona, I somehow felt that she would turn into a very flat character. However, episode eleven proved me wrong in every sense due to a decent equality between seriousness and entertainment. I believe there was more then one instant where I felt the need to pause and go back just for the extra laugh. I truly miss Clannad sometimes, and coming back to it after so long just makes it old worth wild when I think of how much I missed the characters.

The occurrences in the episode wasn’t exactly surprising besides the last bit; regardless, it somehow turned into something extremely enjoyable. I think much of it had to do with the jokes and the way they were presented. It also strengthened Kotomi’s presence as a socialite instead of the more fitting loner characteristic. I recall in the last entry I made that she didn’t seem to fit having a network of friends, yet it seems the puzzle fits a bit better due to the fact she seems much more comfortable. Also, the ideal of her making friends has been shifted to her violin playing, so it could well be that because the focus from such a point was strayed, so I have no more reason to pursue it.

I did believe that Kotomi would become a better player, at least by a small bit near her recital. I’m still not sure if she is meant to be, or if it won’t ever be expressed more so due to the terrors of her past. It seems awfully shady, if not a bit more threatening then Fuko’s. Then again, it’s extremely hard to have a endangering history to a ghost girl, there’s little to do other then make peace sadly. Though things seem a bit heavier for Kotomi, then again this could also be the creators trying to put each arc in order by the most drama filled. Whichever it is, I know I’m interested instead of bored by such disastrous secrets ready to be revealed.

One thing that struck me as quite unique was actually allowing Ryou to have such a big role. It was still minor of course, considering it wasn’t her path yet, but it seemed oddly intriguing without distracting from Kotomi’s involvement at all. I think it’s rather obvious that the girl Ryou was talking about was either herself or Kyou (more so her sister in all honesty), though it seems clear that Kotomi has developed her own crush or feels a comfort from Tomoya. I’m not sure whether to really enjoy this because it seems too stacked on to be responsible, but it’ll be told in due time I’m sure. In the end, it was nice to see Ryou mix in a bit more personality wise despite it being Kotomi’s time to shine.

One other thing I would like to point out is that Tomoya has weird, whacky dreams. I wasn’t sure if this was something that was going to occur in every arc, since Fuko had a wild dream herself in her own arc… but seriously, what the hell Tomoya was that?! I’ve had strange dreams myself, more so when I was under ten, but his dream had to be a result of him getting high. Either way, I think it crept me out more so then add to the overall plot. Though all in all this episode was a nice addition, and had a decent depth to it that kept me more so involved then last time. I hope we don’t get a last time, Clannad is not meant to ever be boring… or so the fanboys say.

It was indeed a hilarious episode, and I Tomoya’s dream was awesome. I have weird dreams like that too.
Kyou ftw!!

Yeah. I paused and went back a couple times during the “Kyou Mahou Transformation” scene XD needed a few screens for that hahaha. What does she say again, something about fish? lmao.
And Kotomi doing her own incantation was friggen cute too. You almost expected something to actually happen (sailor scout kotomi?!).
I agree that this episode > last episode. arc intro’s suck :P
