Gundam 00 Episode 06

Ah, I should have foreseen a cliffhanger like this. I guess I wasn’t smart enough to make the connection with the red-haired guy that he was previously seen in the series. I generally don’t notice things like that (and certainly not at one in the morning when I wrote this post). Even so I felt myself pulled into the episode as to what would happen next only to find that it stopped right when my interest peeked. Oh, how thoroughly cruel. Yes, I did indeed yell at my TV screen. Continue reading Gundam 00 Episode 06…

Gundam 00 Episode 05

A very lovable episode in turns of character involvement, though it didn’t necessarily help story progression, it worked hard to give a bit of insight on a few of our characters. Very slowly Gundam 00 is becoming more and more likable. Its start was mediocre by my own standards, and it felt lacking solely due to the lifelessness involved. However, it’s beginning to have its own sense of style and uniqueness that it couldn’t seem to find beforehand. I saw this episode as a major improvement solely because the interest in these one sided characters had finally been quelled to a degree. Little mannerisms are starting to appear, and that’s what I truly love. Continue reading Gundam 00 Episode 05…

Once again the Celestial Beings slip into that bad guy role as if its natural. I’m starting to see a slight pattern, not sure if it will continue through the whole show or just until the Gundam pilots change the world for the better. It makes me go back and think of the conflicting debate found in the series Death Note, solely because while there was many things wrong with killing people it was for a greater good. I think Gundam 00 is similar in their approach with the whole eradicate war ideal. Sure, it is indeed revolutionary, but is it right? I could go and debate such a thing for hours on end, and I’m sure many of you could as well. Though it’s really the way a person perceives something. I think if that is the manner in which the directors are going I really would like to see the rest of the story being told. Continue reading Gundam 00 Episode 04…

It’s actually really nice to get back into Gundam since this episode was exactly what I was asking of from the other two. I finally got an idea of the characters we’re dealing with instead of a blurred line of hardass. It really is interesting to see the pilots’ little personality quirks shine through now and again. While it might seem rather pitiful to look forward to considering there’s a ton of slash and hack battles awaiting, I’m much more keen onto why these people are fighting and what for. That of course involves the character themselves and their mannerisms instead of their warfare struggles. In contrast to episode one and two I was fairly impressed by this one because it seemed more so human if the term is acceptable in such an action oriented series. Little surprises are surfacing for Gundam which will either be its downfall or another niche in the fact that this is a successful franchise; why change the formula? The story is moving at a smooth, if not simple pace, which is leaving me wanting to find the true core of what’s to come. Much like with Clannad, I know there’s drama coming and at least some engaging character relationships to go along with it. So, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t waiting for that drastic turn. However, as stated in my previous review, for a series like this I know I need every ounce of patience but I feel a bit doubtful… they couldn’t even give me a cool opening or ending to tide me over. I think it’s fair to say that one thing all Gundam series have in common is the fact the viewer is completely unaware of the plot until twenty minutes in. While I love suspension and the likes, I have a fine hate towards confusion. Then again, things near the end of the episode tied together rather nicely. I guess I would prefer a better way to introduce characters, but this is a personal taste. Most Gundam fanatics would probably despise my opinion entirely on the way a show is tackled. Presentation is essential and I have always found that lacking unless it’s a battle between huge robots instead of character conflict. However, this does not mean that the Gundam franchise has never brought emotion, sweat, or tears to their work; if anything I commend them for being able to make me cry or scream out when a shocking situation happened.
